Nike Inspired by Dove’s Uniliver in Nike’s “big butt,” “Thighs of Thunder” campaign
Abby Z Collection and other designers such as Nike realize that this market needs to be served. They can't afford to just leave all these great customers to Big and Tall and Curves stores. It's time that curvy women feel as comfortable shopping for clothes that will fit their bodies.
Who does not have a sister, a friend or a relative who is on the heavy set side? Who does not know a woman who puts on some weight after giving birth? Yes, the real woman will tend to gain weight just like Oprah. The real woman, now celebrated by Dove's Uniliver campaign and Nike, needs the attention of designers all over the world. There are more of them than of the thin-rail, size 12 models out there. It's time that the fashion industry recognize this truth.
"My Butt is big and round like the letter C, and 10,000 lunges have made it rounder but not smaller. And that’s just fine. It’s a space heater for my side of the bed. It’s my ambassador. To those who walk behind me, it’s a border collie that herds skinny women away from the best deals at clothing sales. My butt is big and that’s just fine. And those who might scorn it are invited to kiss it. Just do it.”
Dove’s campaign for real beauty catches advertisers’ attention. Stacy who is a student shows her backside with pride. She is one of my favorite ladies in the campaign.
It’s time that natural, real women get their dues. The anti-Barbie movement is progressing. Rail-thin models are being taken by surprise, but they will always be around. They don’t need to worry about the new interests in normal women. Among the curvy women, only those who are muscular, atheletic will have a chance in the industry. There are barriers that still need to come down before they become supermodels. Mo’Nique’s Second Chances show is a first step. A staple of Oh or Oxygen owned by Oprah Winfrey, the show featuring F.A.T ladies crowned its first “Miss FAT 2005.” Joanne Borgella got the prize and honor. We just hope she gets some deals just like the ladies of Sports Illustrated, Maxim, Elle and For Him.
